Three arrested as police recover stolen property in Mtwapa

Three suspects have been arrested in Mtwapa Township, Kilifi County, following a police operation that led to the recovery of a wide array of suspected stolen items.

According to a statement from the National Police Service, officers from the Mtwapa police station, led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), carried out an intelligence-led operation in the Kasarani area earlier on Tuesday targeting stolen property.

The operation resulted in the arrest of three individuals and the recovery of items including four tablets, 25 mobile phones of different brands, 18 gas cylinders, 10 assorted watches, seven television sets, two grinders, and two blenders.

Other recovered items include two digital scales, one baby walker, assorted utensils, clothing, cables, and local and foreign currencies in various denominations.

Among the recovered currencies were old Kenyan shilling notes of previous denominations.

The suspects are currently being held at Mtwapa police station pending processing and arraignment.

All recovered items have also been secured at the station.

“The National Police Service remains resolute in its commitment to combating crime and commends the public for providing information that led to the successful arrests and recovery,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, police recovered stolen livestock in Samburu county during a well-coordinated multi-agency security operation conducted Monday night.

The operation involved officers from Archers Post police station, the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU), the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU), National Police Reservists (NPR), and rangers from Sera and Kalama conservancies.

The team pursued suspected bandits and engaged them in a fierce exchange of gunfire in the Silver area near Ol Kanjau.

The suspects were eventually overpowered and forced to flee, abandoning the stolen animals.

All livestock were recovered unharmed and have since been returned to the rightful owner.

"This operation underscores the unwavering commitment of the National Police Service to combat banditry and restore peace and order, working jointly with other government agencies and local communities," the NPS said in a statement.
