Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has called on Kenyans living in the United States to be cautious about supporting political fundraising efforts by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Sudi’s remarks came in response to Gachagua’s recent appeal for financial support to boost his Democratic Congress Party (DCP), during his ongoing tour in the United States.

Gachagua, who is also the party leader of DCP, asked Kenyans in the diaspora to help fund party activities, saying the support would be used for constructive political engagement and development.

“Our party DCP require resources. Whatever you can contribute is welcome to be put in good use so that we push the agenda for the next two years. Even as I'm here the movement is going on,” Gachagua said.

However, Sudi questioned the intention behind the appeal, saying the funds being sought from the diaspora should instead be used to support families back home and improve livelihoods.

“For the first time since you went to the US, at least you’ve spoken the truth — that your main reason for going there is to ask for money from hardworking Kenyans,” said Sudi in a video message shared on social media.

He urged Kenyans in the diaspora, particularly those from the Mt. Kenya region, to focus their resources on their own families and economic growth, instead of funding political ventures without accountability.

According to the Kapseret MP, Kenyans working abroad are engaged in demanding jobs, such as caregiving and truck driving, and should ensure their earnings are spent wisely.

He also encouraged Gachagua to return to Kenya and participate in local political conversations instead of relying on diaspora engagements.

“Just come back home. Those Kenyans in the US know how to support their families and grow economically. They are not ready to waste their resources,” Sudi added.
