The Suswa Leisure Train has adjusted its timings to better serve passengers in Ngong, Rongai, Mai Mahiu and Suswa.
In a statement on Thursday, Kenya Railways announced the new schedule for the Madaraka Express Passenger Service, which takes effect on Friday, August 1, 2025.
“Travel just got more convenient!” KR said.
According to the updated timetable, the Nairobi to Suswa train will now depart from Nairobi at 08:50 am.
It will arrive and depart Rongai between 09:14 am and 09:19 am, Ngong between 09:34 am and 09:39 am, and Mai Mahiu between 10:24 am and 10:27 am, before reaching Suswa at 10:55 am.
In the reverse direction, the train will depart Suswa at 4:05 pm.
It will arrive and depart Mai Mahiu between 4:30 pm and 4:33 pm, Ngong between 5:20 pm and 5:25 pm, and Rongai between 5:40 pm and 5:45 pm, before arriving in Nairobi at 6:10 pm.
Tickets for travel on the Madaraka Express Passenger Service can be purchased online via the https://metickets.krc.co.ke platform.
They can also be bought over the counter at the nearest Madaraka Express Passenger Service station, or by phone using the USSD payment solution by dialing *639# on a Safaricom line and following the prompted steps.
KR notes that passengers can purchase tickets up to sixty days in advance, and return tickets are also available as long as both trips fall within the sixty-day window.
The online platform and USSD service are available 24 hours a day. A maximum of ten persons can be booked per transaction through either method.
Madaraka Express tickets are only valid for travel on the specific date, time, and train indicated on the ticket. Open-dated tickets are not available.
Passengers who board a different train from the one specified will be required to pay the full fare applicable to the class and train they are on, in addition to a 30 percent penalty.
KR adds that refunds may be available for unused tickets, depending on the ticket type and subject to Kenya Railways’ refund policy.
All tickets are issued in the name of the passenger and are non-transferable. The name on the ticket must match the name on the passenger's identification document.
Travelers must carry a valid National Identification Card or other acceptable identification. Passengers without proper identification will not be allowed to board the train.
