This year’s edition attracted over 10,800 applications from journalists spanning 129 countries across the Global South, underscoring the program’s reputation as one of the most sought-after opportunities for media professionals in developing regions.

In a social media appreciation post, he said, “Being chosen for the CNN Academy Voices from the South program is an incredible honor. With so many talented applicants from across the Global South, I am humbled to be part of this unique cohort.”

“I am excited to learn from some of the best in the industry and to connect with fellow journalists who are passionate about telling impactful stories. This selection motivates me to continue striving for excellence and to use my voice to shed light on issues that matter in our communities,” he added.

At the end of the course, each participant will pitch a story idea centered on a health topic to a panel of CNN editors.

The most compelling pitches will earn a select group of journalists to travel to Abu Dhabi for a hands-on simulation programme, collaborating directly with CNN newsroom professionals.

This immersive experience is designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice, equipping journalists with real-world skills and global connections.

Elisha appreciated the star editorial leadership for modelling him to compete with international journalists on such spaces.

He said, “I sincerely thank the editors and subeditors at The Star Newspaper for their invaluable mentorship and for modelling me to compete confidently among international journalists. Their guidance has been instrumental in preparing me for this opportunity.”

The program’s focus on elevating stories from the Global South comes at a time when diverse narratives in international news are more important than ever.

By equipping journalists like Elisha with advanced skills and access to CNN’s global network, the initiative aims to empower participants to bring fresh perspectives and original reporting to the forefront.

As the programme begins, he looks forward to leveraging this platform for both personal growth and to contribute to a richer, more inclusive media landscape.

The experience promises to be a milestone in his career, opening doors to new opportunities and global collaborations.
