TikTok User Kakan Maiyo has been freed on a Sh10,000 police bond, pending possible prosecution.

Maiyo was arrested on Wednesday, July 9, and booked at Muthaiga Police Station.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), he was nabbed for allegedly inciting violence against police officers and their families.

Maiyo was picked up by detectives after a viral video posted on his TikTok account allegedly called for attacks against law enforcement personnel.

DCI said he was tracked down to Kimathi House, where he had been operating a private office under the name LetaPeleka Logistics.

"Detectives trailed the suspect to Kimathi House, where he was operating a discreet office under the name LetaPeleka Logistics. He is currently in custody undergoing processing, pending arraignment," DCI said.

Authorities said the arrest is part of a wider crackdown on individuals accused of spreading hate and inciting unrest amid recent anti-government protests.

Kakan’s arrest came after President William Ruto declared that an attack on the police is a “declaration of war” and vowed a firm government response to such actions.

“Nimewavumilia ya kutosha, sasa mtanikoma (I have tolerated you enough),” the President said, warning that attacking police officers and public installations would now be treated as a declaration of war against the state.

“This is no longer a protest; this is anarchy. And we will crush it without fear or favour… It is terrorism, and we are going to deal with you firmly. We cannot have a nation run by terror and governed by violence; it will not happen under my watch,” he said.

He also told police officers to shoot in the leg anyone caught looting businesses and vandalizing property during protests.

“Anyone who burns down someone else’s business and property, let them be shot in the leg and go to the hospital as they head to court. Yes, let them not kill, but shoot and break the legs. Destroying people’s property is not right,” Ruto said.
