Speaking on Wednesday, Munya said a decision had been made to postpone the rally to a
later day.
According to Munya, the postponement was due to the destruction in Meru during Saba Saba protests, hence the county is not ready to host the tour.
“Due to the recent events in Meru that brought destruction,
we have postponed the rallies to a later date,” Munya said.
The tour was expected to start on Thursday in Meru, when Munya
was expected to host Matiang’i.
Matiangi’s day one tour (Thursday) was to visit Isiolo,
Ruiru and Meru Town.
On Friday, July 11, he was to visit some of Meru’s
constituencies, including Kariene, Nkubu, Muthara, Kangeta, Laare, Mailltatu and
Maua.
On the final day, Matiang’i was supposed to conclude his
tour with a visit to Athi, Mikinduri, and Kiania.
The Mt Kenya tour
was part of the countrywide meet-the-people visit by Mating’i to seek popularity
for himself ahead of the next elections.
The former CS has been conducting a series of engagements.
On May 2, 2025, Matiang'i visited Nyamira as part of the Gusii region.
Speaking during the Nyamira tour, Matiang'i announced his plan to visit the Rift Valley, Central, Eastern, and Western Kenya regions to rally Kenyans to support his presidential bid.
On July 2, 2025, Matiang'i joined the former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper party leader in the Western region tour, among other prominent opposition figures.
The tour was part of their national campaign aimed at rallying public support and addressing what they describe as a "liberation cause" for the country.
Speaking on June 30, Matiang'i rubbished claims that he is a project of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV, Matiang’i questioned the meaning of being labelled a “project.”
Matiang’i further clarified that he has not sought permission from Uhuru to run for the presidency, though they do discuss matters concerning Kenya.
The former CS also stated that he has been claimed by various parties in the opposition, not just the Jubilee Party.
He was explaining that he has been endorsed by several party secretary generals, not just Jubilee’s.
