Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has said President William Ruto is guaranteed a second term in office,.
The CS said that the ruling coalition has the numbers to deliver a landslide victory in
2027.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Wednesday, Duale expressed confidence that the President’s re-election is not in doubt.
He argued that the Kenya Kwanza administration will win based on its
development record.
“William Ruto will come back with a landslide… inshallah, his second term is guaranteed,” Duale said.
“He will be voted, not because of anything else, but because he will deliver on his promises.”
His remarks come in the wake of heightened political tension between Ruto and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The former DP has publicly clashed with the President and accused him of
isolating the Mount Kenya region.
Gachagua and his opposition allies have vowed to eject president Ruto from office come 2027 amid claims linking them to recent waves of protests in the country.
On Wednesday, Ruto claimed that
the opposition was plotting to overthrow his government, pointing fingers at
unnamed political players whom he accused of fueling violence.
In response, Gachagua dismissed the
claims, saying the opposition’s goal is to defeat Ruto at the ballot in 2027,
not through unconstitutional means.
“Nobody wants to overthrow your government… we want to face you on the ballot in August 2027, so just relax,” Gachagua said during a press briefing.
He insisted that the “Wantam”
movement, which he leads, is not a revolutionary force, but a political
formation pushing for constitutional change of leadership.
Gachagua also warned Ruto against
using the alleged threats as an excuse to clamp down on the opposition.
Duale’s statement is likely to escalate the rising war of words between the opposition and Ruto''s footsoldiers, with both camps sharpening their positions ahead of the next general election.
