National Assembly releases 2025 revised calendar with key recess and sitting dates

The National Assembly has released its official calendar for the remainder of the 2025 legislative year, detailing sitting days, recess periods, and committee sessions.

According to a schedule by Clerk of the National Assembly Samuel Njoroge, the MPs who are currently on short recess will conclude it on July 21.

The lawmakers proceeded on recess on July 2.

The normal sittings will then start on Tuesday, July 22 and run until Thursday, August 14.

The long recess will then run from Friday, August 15, to Monday, September 15.

The third part of the session will begin on Tuesday, September 16 and continue until Thursday, October 16, with the same sitting pattern.

Another short recess is scheduled from Friday, October 17, to Monday, November 3.

Parliament will resume sittings from Tuesday, November 4 to Thursday, December 4.

The year will close with a long recess from Friday, December 5 to Monday, February 9, 2026.

Additionally, the annual suspension of committee sittings has been scheduled for the period between December 15, 2025 and January 25, 2026.

In accordance with the Standing Orders, morning sittings will begin at 9:30 am while afternoon sittings commence at 2:30 pm.

Njoroge at the same stated that parliament retains the authority to alter this schedule.

"The House may resolve to hold sittings on other days and times outside the published calendar," he stated.

The parliamentary calendar is structured to allow MPs time for legislative duties in the House as well as constituency engagements.

These breaks are provided for under the Standing Orders and help ensure a balanced legislative cycle that accommodates both national and local responsibilities.
