Bishops in Rift Valley have called for dialogue and respect for constitutional order to resolve issues raised by Gen Zs during the recent protests.

The clergy said the country must ensure peace and unity prevail instead of the current situation that threatens stability of the country.

They have called for tolerance and a clear approach to help resolve the issues raised by the youth.

The clergymen also warned against increasing political intolerance saying it distorts ongoing positive efforts in national development.

They spoke after a week-long prayer meeting at the RCEA Conference and Training Center in Eldoret where Bishop Luka Maiyo of AIC church led the bishops who also included Bishop Elly Rop of the Full Gospel Church, Christopher Misoi of Seventh Adventist Church, David Leting who is moderator of the Reformed Church.

The bishops said both the government and the youth along with all other political leaders must embrace dialogue and be ready to listen to each other.

“We believe two wrongs can not be a solution, we must use proper mechanisms to listen to each other and foster peace and national unity,” bishop Rop said.

The bishops said as much as the government had faced several challenges it had tried its best to initiate positive development programmes.

“As the clergy of the North Rift region, We appreciate the efforts achieved so far by the government including the broad-based government that brings all citizens on board regardless of their political affiliation,” bishop Maiyo said.

They also noted improvement of health through SHA and food security through improved agricultural development which has seen improvement of cane and coffee prices.

The clergy also noted the affordable housing project which they termed as successful.

“We have regrettably observed with great concern the recent events unfolding in our nation. We wish to state that we are perturbed by the manner in which we as citizens of this country are addressing these challenges,” read the statement by the church leaders.

They insisted there must be genuine dialogue to deal with issues of concern to Kenyans.

“Two wrongs can never make a right. It will be only be a recipe for anarchy that will lead to a failed state and this is dangerous for everyone,” Maiyo said.

They called for respect for the  2010 Constitution.

“We must honour this achievement and continue to uphold the values enshrined in it. We urge all Kenyans to remain united for the prosperity of both current and future generations,” they said.

They urged Kenyans to respect those in leadership.

“However, this does not diminish the need for open dialogue whenever the need arises. As human beings, we depend on one another to thrive. We call on all Kenyans to embrace tolerance and engage in conversations that promote the well-being and prosperity of our nation,” Rop said.

The clergy urged the youth to channel their energy and optimism in ways that are respectful to both God and society.

They said they were deeply troubled by the growing political intolerance and the distortion of efforts that could benefit the nation.

“We urge all political leaders and citizens to stop using divisive tactics that could derail the progress of our country.”

The church leaders at the same time said they were deeply concerned about biased incorrect information meant to polarise the citizens.

“Though we have freedom of speech, we urge media outlets to exercise responsibility and fairness in their reporting. Accurate, objective and balanced reporting is essential in promoting national harmony and ensuring the truth prevails,” read the statement.
