Former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has for the first time opened up on an incident where police rreportedly raided his Karen home in February 2023.

Speaking on Tuesday night, Matiang’i said it was an ordeal he would want to forget, as it brings back painful memories.

He went on to claim that it was part of the frustrations many of the people who served in the Jubilee administration’s Cabinet went through after Kenya Kwanza came in.

The former CS said it was an unfortunate incident he would not want anyone to go through.

“It's an incident I would not like to discuss because it evokes very painful memories and frustrations I would like to completely forget, because it is true. Even later on, senior security officers in the country have spoken to me about it and admitted to all the things planned for my residence.

"It's a very unfortunate incident. It’s part of the harassment and frustrations that many of us went through after the transition of government, which I personally would not like to see happen to anybody in this country,” Matiang’i said.

He added that the circumstances around the attack were also traumatising to not only him and his family but most people who served under retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, including the former head of state himself.

Matiang’i, however, said that he had forgiven those involved and moved on with his life.

“I think the less said about that incident, the better for me. The circumstances around it were not only frustrating but traumatising, not just for me, but for my family and many people I served with in government, including the former President.”

The alleged police raid purported to have taken place on the former Interior CS’s home on the night of February 9, 2023, was dismissed by the DCI as a “well-coordinated and deliberate attempt to spread false information and incite public fear.”

On February 15, 2023, police raided the home in search of CCTV footage from the initial raid. This was done despite the court denying court orders to retrieve the footage.
