Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja on Wednesday hosted athletes and members of the NPS Sports Local Organising Committee at his Jogoo House ‘A’ office.
The team presented trophies won in sporting events last year and this year, including those from the recently concluded 2025 Athletics Kenya National Championships.
Kanja commended athletes Julius Yego, Millicent Ndoro and Ferdinand Omanyala for their outstanding performances, noting that their achievements continue to bring great honor and pride to the National Police Service (NPS).

Recognising sports as a key unifying factor, not only within the NPS but also in bridging the gap between the Service and the public, Kanja encouraged the athletes to stay on course, upholding high standards of discipline and integrity both on and off the field.

The meeting also served as a platform for the outgoing chairperson Stephen Etyang to officially handover leadership as he retires after 36 years of dedicated service.
Appointed in 2022, Etyang now passes the baton to Francis Ndiema, SAIG and Director of Personnel (DCI), who assumes the role in an acting capacity.
The IG congratulated Etyang on his retirement, praising it as a notable achievement and recognizing his legacy of outstanding leadership.
