President William Ruto held a bilateral meeting with Sir Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of the UK, at 10 Downing Street, London, on July 1, 2025.
He joined newly elected UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer in London in signing the renewed Kenya-UK Strategic Partnership 2025–2030.
President Ruto, in a statement posted on his account on X, said that the Kenya-UK Strategic partnership has been renewed, laying a strong foundation for increased trade, investment, and sustainable growth.
The agreement is set to support developments between the two countries in different sectors.
“This pact will also advance our shared development goals in climate, ICT and regional peace and security,” Ruto said.
Ruto expressed his certainty in the positive economic results of the pact on Kenyan citizens.
“With a promise to double our bilateral trade over the next five years, we are confident the cooperation will deliver a tangible economic impact to our people,” he said.
According to a press release issued June 29 by State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, the President’s tour was intended to focus on sealing major economic and diplomatic agreements while championing global financial reform.
In London, Hussein said, the President will join newly elected UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer in signing the renewed Kenya-UK Strategic Partnership 2025–2030.
The five-year framework is built on four key pillars, which are trade, climate, technology, and security.
The upgraded pact aims to double bilateral trade by 2030, equip Kenyans with digital skills, and bolster cooperation on regional stability, cybersecurity, and the fight against terrorism.
"The UK has committed to mobilising up to £1.5 billion in new investments across Kenya to drive growth across priority sectors by 2030," it states.
Under the trade and green growth pillar, both countries will prioritise the completion of flagship projects, including the Nairobi Railway City.
The project is set to transform Nairobi’s Central Business District into a modern, transit-oriented urban hub.
In the tech space, the UK and Kenya will collaborate on Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies, with fresh support for Kenyan start-ups and SMEs through public-private partnerships.
