A 63-year-old woman was found dead after a fire flattened her house in Lunyinya area, Kakamega County.
Neighbours said they heard a bang in the morning of June 25 from
the house where Florence Katera was sleeping before a fire broke out.
The police said the woman lived alone in a permanent house at the time of the incident.
A fire engine from the local county government managed to put
out the fire when the body of the woman was discovered.
A shell of a six-kilo gas cylinder and a plate were found in
her bedroom.
Police said the cause of the fire was not immediately established.
The remains were moved to the local mortuary pending autopsy
and other investigations.
Police said they want to understand the cause of the fire.
Elsewhere, two suspects were separately killed by mobs in
failed robbery incidents.
Cases of mob lynching have been on the rise amid calls to
tame the trend.
The first incident, according to police, happened in the Vigurungani area, Kilifi County, where a man was stoned to death and his body
set on fire.
Police said they were called to the scene and managed to
remove the body to the mortuary.
Those behind the murder are yet to be known, police said of
the Wednesday incident.

One of the suspects was attacked by a spear and bled to death.
The three chickens he had packed in his bag were recovered,

The suspect was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
