A fourth-year university student has died by suicide in Tharaka Nithi
County, police have confirmed, in one of three separate suspected suicide cases
reported this week across the country.
Davis Murithi Mugambi, aged 24, was found dead
in his home in Muthenge village, Mitheru location, Muthambi Sub-county.
The incident occurred on Monday and
was reported to Mitheru Police Station by a relative, according to Tharaka
Nithi County Police Commander.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the
student had been struggling with depression after failing two exams, which may
have affected his ability to graduate this year.
Officers from Mitheru Police Station, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations
(DCI) Maara team, and a crime scene officer from the county headquarters
visited the scene.
No suicide note was found, and police said the
body was moved to the mortuary pending further investigation.
In a separate case in Migori County, a
40-year-old man is reported to have taken his own life at his sister’s rented
house in Kitere market, Rongo Sub-county. Migori County Police Commander
confirmed the case was reported to Kitere Police Station on Tuesday at 2:14 pm
by a relative.
Police officers from the Kenya Police Service
and DCI, led by the local OCS, found the body lying on the floor near the door.
Foam was seen oozing from the mouth, and there was a strong smell of an
unidentified pesticide. No visible injuries were reported, and the body was taken
to Rosewood Nursing Home Mortuary for post-mortem.
In Kisii County, police are investigating the
death of an eight-year-old girl, Abigael Moraguri, who was reportedly found
dead in her father’s house.
The incident, which occurred in
Nyakukuguru village, Iringa Sub-location within Bomonyara, was reported to
Tabaka Police Station on Wednesday at 2:10 pm.
Police say the minor was found hanging with a
manila rope. The scene was documented by DCIO Gucha South, OCS Tabaka, and
other officers.
There were no visible injuries, and the body was moved to Tabaka Mission
Hospital Mortuary pending autopsy.
Investigations
into all three incidents are ongoing. Police have urged members of the public
to be vigilant, seek mental health support when needed, and report any signs of
distress among family or community members.
