Equity Bank has opened a new branch in Kimilili Town, Bungoma County. The
branch is located along the Chwele-Kimilili-Kamukuywa Road, next to Shell
petrol station.
This brings the number of Equity Bank branches
in Bungoma to two. Across the country, the bank now operates 214 branches and
four sub-branches.
The Kimilili branch will offer basic banking
services, including deposits, withdrawals, and account management.
Equity Bank Managing Director Moses Nyabanda
urged local farmers and small traders to open accounts and apply for loans.
“This bank will benefit tea, onion, potato, and maize farmers,” he said.
Nyabanda also said the bank would offer training
and financial literacy to residents. He claimed the bank has already trained
2,400 youth in Bungoma.
The bank also provides scholarships. Nyabanda
said 1,047 students in Bungoma have received support through the "Wings to
Fly" program. He added that 47 students from the county have received
university scholarships through the Equity Leadership program.
Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa welcomed the new branch and promised to work with the bank.
“We have been using Equity agents.
We now look forward to more services,” he said.
Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka opened the branch.
He said it would help improve access to banking in the county.
The bank also opened another branch in Bissil,
Kajiado County. The branch will serve local traders and pastoralists.
Equity Bank has been expanding to reach more areas across Kenya and the region.
