A police lorry was torched in Eldoret during ongoing protests.

Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi confirmed that the lorry was set ablaze by youth in the Huruma area.

However, Mwanthi could not confirm reports of a fatality, although several injuries were reported.

The county police boss said officers had largely managed to contain the situation in the town, where business was completely paralysed.

“The lorry was torched during the riots near the Pemugi area,” said Mwanthi.

He promised to issue a comprehensive statement on the overall situation in the region.
