The senator asserted that the Maa region remains firmly behind President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The two leaders are currently working together under the broad-based government following a cooperation agreement signed on March 7, 2025.
In a terse statement on his X account, Ole Kina dismissed the delegation of leaders who visited Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence on June 23, 2025, saying they do not represent the Maa community.
“We have a few perennial losers who paid a courtesy call to an impeached individual named Riggy G. Get it from me, Maasai votes are intact and will fully support President William Ruto and Raila Odinga,” Ole Kina said.
He also dismissed a suggestion by former presidential candidate James Ole Kiyapi that he could be swept aside in 2027, insisting that his political destiny is secure.
“Boldly and gladly,’’ he affirmed.
There are indications that the ODM–UDA cooperation could evolve into a formal pre-election coalition agreement, with the two parties working together in the 2027 polls.
Raila Odinga’s ODM party has already hinted at backing Ruto’s re-election bid, with several senior officials openly endorsing the president for a second term.
Ole Kina’s remarks came just hours after Gachagua announced that he would officially launch his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) on July 7, 2025.
Gachagua announced during a meeting with more than 500 grassroots mobilisers from the Maa community at his Wamunyoro residence.
The delegation included leaders from Narok, Kajiado, Samburu, and Laikipia counties.
He said the launch venue had been relocated from Nairobi to the Maa region after the initial booking was allegedly cancelled by the state.
“The launch was initially planned for Nairobi, but the state interfered with venue booking. I now ask the Maa community to host this important event in their region,” Gachagua said.
The crowd responded with loud cheers, raising their herding sticks in agreement.
“This DCP party is yours. I am requesting, if you agree,
that the launch ceremony—which we had initially planned to hold in Nairobi—be
held here among the Maa people instead. If you agree, will you do it?” Gachagua
asked.
He claimed his previous meetings in Nairobi were often disrupted by hired goons and expressed optimism that the Maa region would offer a more secure and supportive atmosphere.
“I ask you to identify a private venue for the event,” he added. “This party belongs to you now. It’s your responsibility to find the venue, welcome the guests, and provide security.”
“Now, for this event, let a private venue be found, because
you know, when we hold events among the Maa, [the government] is used to
sending goons to disrupt us. But among the Maa, is there anyone who can ruin the
event? Now DCP is your party, the event is yours — welcome the guests and
secure the meeting.”
“So to these leaders, I wanted to ask if you have agreed — and I thank you — then the event will be held on July 7.”
The DCP suffered a major logistical blow after its planned launch at the Kasarani Indoor Arena in Nairobi was abruptly cancelled.
The party had booked the venue for June 3, 2025, paying over Sh3.7 million to Sports Kenya.
The launch was initially set for June 4, but the date was moved to June 3 due to venue availability.
However, the booking was later revoked under unclear
circumstances.
