The project, launched in September 2023 by President William Ruto, is redefining the landscape of Majengo.
Rising from what was once an informal settlement, the development now stands at 88 per cent complete.
After a visit at the site, Omollo has revealed that works are in full gear towards completing the project.
They range from the casting of the retaining wall and civil installations, to electrical wiring, plumbing, mechanical fittings, painting and the welding of doors and windows.
The project, which is part of President Ruto’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), is aimed at addressing Kenya’s urban housing challenges.
“Once complete, the project will stimulate economic activity, decongest informal settlements and enhance urban order in Vihiga Constituency,” Omollo stated.
The project features nine blocks housing a total of 220 modern units.
The unit mix includes a bedsitter block with 60 units, a block of 20 one-bedroom units, five blocks offering 100 two-bedroom units and two blocks with 40 spacious three-bedroom units.
“This project addresses the critical housing shortage in the region and delivers broad socio-economic benefits,” Omollo said
Additionally, Omollo noted that young people are gaining hands-on training in construction, electrical work, welding and finishing, equipping them with trades that extend far beyond the project site.
“With 220 workers, the project is a powerful engine for employment, for both men and women, which roots for skills development and economic empowerment,” he said.
On May 27, 2025, Omollo also revealed that the affordable housing project in Eldoret was 82 per cent complete.
Omollo said a team of 220 workers was on-site, driving civil works and finishing touches across nine residential blocks.
According to Omollo, the project comprises 220 housing units: 60 studio apartments, 40 one-bedrooms, 100 two-bedrooms, and 20 three-bedrooms, offering a wide range of options to meet the diverse housing needs of residents.
