Concern as six people die by suicide in two days

Police are investigating a spate of suicide incidents reported in various parts of the country.

According to the police, six suicide incidents are under investigation.

The incidents were reported between June 15 and 16, 2025, in what authorities term a concerning spike in fatal cases involving both suspected homicides and self-harm.

In Kirangi, Nyeri County, a man identified as Alex Murage Gitonga, 41, was found dead after allegedly hanging himself within his father’s compound.

The scene was processed by officers from Embaringo Police Station and the DCI Nyeri.

His body was taken to Mary Immaculate Mission Hospital in Mweiga.

In  another incident in Kwale county, a 32-year-old man identified as Solomon Kilunda is said to have died by suicide inside his rented house in Diani Ward.

His girlfriend, Josephine Ogura, discovered the body after forcing the door open when he failed to respond.

Neighbors reported that the deceased appeared disturbed earlier in the evening.

His body was moved to Msambweni Referral Hospital mortuary pending investigation.

Kilifi County also recorded another suicide case involving a 20-year-old Patrick Ngala Kiiti of Chonyi Subcounty.

The deceased was found hanging from a mango tree using a twisted sisal rope.

Police moved his body to Kilifi hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.

Another suicide incident was reported in Nakuru where a man was found to have died by suicide in Kijabe forest area in Maai Mahiu.

Police officers visited the scene and found one male adult, identified as Benson Karanja Kimani aged 29 years, having allegedly hanged himself on a tree with a sisal rope tied around his neck.

The cause of suicide is not yet established. The scene was processed, and the body of the deceased with no visible injuries removed to Umme mortuary for preservation awaiting autopsy.

Meru County reported a suspected suicide of Charles Kirimi Quantai (56), who was found hanging in his bathroom at Mathakweni village.

According to his wife, the deceased had previously made suicide attempts.

His body was taken to Mureithi Funeral Home as police launched investigations into the matter.

A 32-year-old man in Diani, Kwale County, has died by suicide in a shocking incident that has left residents of Ibiza area in disbelief.

According to a police report filed at Diani Police Station, the incident occurred on the evening  of June 15, 2025, at around 8:30 pm.

The deceased, identified as Solomon Kilunda, a Kamba male adult, allegedly hanged himself inside the single-room house he shared with his girlfriend.

His body was taken to the mortuary pending investigations.

All bodies have been preserved in respective county mortuaries awaiting postmortems, with DCI teams leading ongoing investigations.

The motive in most cases remains unknown.

Police have urged the public to report any suspicious activities and seek help where needed to prevent similar tragedies.
