Kisumu has officially signed a sister city agreement with Yiyang City in China.


The deal aims to strengthen friendly ties and promote mutual growth between the two cities.


The agreement was formalised by Kisumu City Manager Abala Wanga and Mr. Xiong Wei, Mayor of the People’s Government of Yiyang City.


This took place during the recent China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo in Changsha, Hunan Province.


The partnership will foster exchanges and economic collaboration based on equality and shared benefit.


Key sectors targeted include science and technology, culture, sports, health, education, and talent development.


Kisumu extended gratitude to the Yiyang Municipal Committee of the CPC, led by Secretary Chen Jing, and Hunan Kenya Business Chamber Chairman, Mr. Aaron Chen.


The agreement builds on an initiative that started in 2019 when Kisumu’s leadership first visited Hunan Province.


Kisumu said it is looking forward to the opportunities the collaboration will bring.
