An e-voucher programe is a system that uses digital vouchers, typically delivered via mobile phone or email, to provide subsidies or access to goods and services, often for agricultural inputs like fertilisers or livestock vaccines.
These vouchers can be redeemed at participating outlets, allowing farmers to purchase items at a reduced price, with the government or the other sponsoring organisation covering a portion of the cost.
Unlike physical paper vouchers, E-Vouchers are sent electronically, often as a code via SMS or email.
In a post on his official X account, Nyong’o stated that this collaboration perfectly aligns with Kisumu county's strategic plan to boost agricultural productivity and improve the livelihoods of their dedicated farmers and local entrepreneurs, including agro-vets.
“With Equity Bank's invaluable financial and technical support, we are confident this new system will ensure that only eligible and enrolled beneficiaries access subsidised inputs,” Nyong’o said.
“This will significantly enhance transparency, accountability, and effective targeting in our agricultural support programmes.”

Representing Equity Bank Kenya at the signing was Managing Director Moses Nyabanda.
On June 8, 2025, the National Irrigation Authority in collaboration with the Kisumu government partnered with Upland Crop Company, a private investor, to run the newly completed rice mill in Ahero, Nyando subcounty.
Agriculture executive Ken Onyango said the move marks a significant milestone in revitalising rice processing in the region.
Under the new arrangement, Upland aimed to manage the rice mill as a private investment, injecting capital to ensure its profitability and long-term sustainability.
Onyango said the milling plant would help enhance local rice production and contribute to reducing the country's rice import burden, in line with the national Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
The modern milling plant constructed at a cost of Sh30 million by the Kisumu government is a key initiative under Nyong’o’s development agenda focused on boosting agriculture and improving food security.
