Anti-Narcotics detectives at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) have arrested a 26-year-old woman suspected of attempting to smuggle cocaine.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the woman was intercepted on June 13, 2025, at around 10:00 AM, shortly before boarding an outbound flight.
According to the detectives, her behaviour during a routine screening reportedly raised suspicion.
She was subsequently subjected to a thorough search, which revealed concealed foreign substances in her body, prompting immediate medical observation.
Later that day, the woman reportedly excreted two pellets, followed by six more on June 14 while still under observation, bringing the total to eight. The pellets were found to contain cocaine weighing approximately 626.65 grams.
The exhibits are now in police custody as investigations continue.
The suspect is being held pending arraignment on June 16, 2025.
In a separate incident on April 17, 2025, police in Nairobi arrested two individuals during an operation in the Karen area.
Officers reportedly recovered 40 kilogrammes of bhang, 203 rolls of the substance, 100 packets of razzlers, Sh1,400 in cash, and a motorcycle believed to have been used in the illegal trade.
The suspects were booked at the Industrial Area Police Station pending court proceedings.
Elsewhere, on April 19, 2025, a woman was arrested in Moyale, Marsabit County, after police reportedly found her in possession of 294 grams of cocaine during a multi-agency operation targeting suspected drug trafficking routes between Northern Kenya and Nairobi.
The arrest occurred at a roadblock on the Moyale-Nairobi route during a routine stop-and-search. Officers said the woman's conduct prompted a more detailed search, which led to the recovery of the concealed narcotics.
She is currently in custody at Moyale Police Station as anti-narcotics officers pursue legal action.
