Days after the National Police Service declared that Administration Police Constable Samuel Ndirangu Muchoki—popularly known as Samidoh—had deserted duty, the popular Mugithi singer was seen meeting former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
The two met in the United States on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, during Samidoh’s tour of the country.
Photos shared online show Samidoh shaking hands with Matiang’i outside what appears to be a restaurant.
Samidoh is currently in the US for a series of events, including live performances, scheduled to run until July 14, 2025.
Matiang’i, a 2027 presidential hopeful, is reportedly working alongside former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Although Samidoh has not formally aligned himself with any political camp, he recently stirred controversy after allegedly endorsing calls for a one-term presidency for William Ruto during a live performance.
The incident occurred just days after he joined several Mt Kenya musicians for a meeting with Deputy President Kithure Kindiki at his official residence in Karen.
This week, the National Police Service called for Samidoh’s arrest, accusing him of failing to return from official leave.
According to an internal memo dated June 9, 2025, Samidoh, who is attached to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (MTD Company), was scheduled to resume duty on May 27, 2025, but has not reported back since.
Authorities have reportedly lost contact with him, and efforts to trace his whereabouts have been unsuccessful.
“The officer was granted off-duty and was supposed to report back on May 27, 2025, but he failed. Since then, he has not been seen and his whereabouts are not known,” the memo stated.
The communication was circulated from Stockpol Gilgil to all key police formations, including DISGEN APS, Vigilance House Nairobi, the Central Records Office (CRO) Nairobi, and all Station Police Commanders (Stapols) countrywide.
Samidoh was officially declared a deserter as of June 6, 2025, having been absent without official leave (AWOL) for over 10 days.
As part of disciplinary measures, the Pay Section has been instructed to stop his salary with immediate effect. Stockpol MTD Company has also been directed to initiate further administrative action.
Additionally, the Central Records Office in Nairobi has been ordered to publish the desertion notice in the next issue of the National Police Gazette.
