Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, held talks with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Changsha on Tuesday, with both sides reaffirming strong bilateral ties following President William Ruto’s recent state visit to Beijing.
Mudavadi expressed gratitude to Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Chinese government for the warm reception extended to President Ruto during his visit, which he said had yielded "fruitful outcomes" for Kenya-China relations.
The discussions between the two leaders had elevated bilateral ties, defining a new era of cooperation under a "community with a shared future."
Wang Yi praised Kenya as a key partner in Africa and the Global South, emphasizing China’s commitment to implementing agreements reached during Ruto’s visit.
"China is ready to work with Kenya to enhance mutual trust, strengthen cooperation, and achieve more results in our shared future," he said.
The Chinese Foreign Minister also highlighted the upcoming Ministerial Meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), set to take place in Changsha, expressing confidence that Kenya would contribute to its success.
He further congratulated Kenya on becoming a founding member of the International Organization for Mediation, pledging joint efforts to promote peaceful conflict resolution, particularly for smaller nations.
Mudavadi reaffirmed Kenya’s adherence to the One-China policy, calling it a cornerstone of Nairobi’s foreign policy with full parliamentary backing.
He expressed optimism about deepening economic and diplomatic cooperation, including China’s support for Kenya’s industrialisation and diversification efforts.
"The new positioning of Kenya-China relations reflects our high-level mutual trust and sets a strong example for Africa-China relations," Mudavadi stated.
The meeting underscored growing Sino-Kenyan ties, with both nations pledging closer collaboration on regional and global issues, including South-South solidarity and multilateral diplomacy.
Changsha is hosting the China-Africa Trade Exhibition where a number of Kenyan exhibitors are taking part.
Foreign Ministry top guns are also taking stock of the implementation of Focac agreements reached with China last September.
