The massive fire tore through the Kicoshep-Kichinjio on Wednesday evening, leaving a trail of destruction and displacing scores of families.
An eyewitness states that by the time he reached the scene, thick smoke choked the air and panic had gripped the neighborhood.
"Determined young residents, wielding whatever they could find, worked tirelessly to save precious belongings as the flames spread relentlessly," the witness said.
According to the witness, the fire, which broke out around 6 pm quickly engulfed dozens of structures.
"The firefighting response was hampered by water shortages and delays in reinforcement, with the first fire engine soon running dry and urgent pleas for more water going out," the witness said.
By 7 pm, the fire was still raging, leaving nearly 200 families staring at the prospect of spending the night outside with nothing but the clothes they wore.
