

A 53-year-old woman was found dead in her house in Nyalenda ‘B’ area, Kisumu County, in what police suspect to be a case of suicide.
The incident was reported at Nyalenda Police Station under OB number 29/09/06/2025 at 7:40 pm
The woman, identified as Mary Njiri Nyawino, was discovered by her 25-year-old son, Allan Otieno Nyawino, who found the house locked from the inside when he returned home from work.
“He called his mother to open the door, but there was no response,” the police report stated.
“He opened the door and went to her bedroom and found her having committed suicide by hanging herself with a rope on the rooftop of her house.”
Officers from Nyalenda Police Station, including the OCS, visited the scene along with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and crime scene experts.
“No suicide note was found at the scene,” the report noted, adding that the motive was not immediately clear.
The body had visible physical injury around the neck and was moved to Kisumu County Referral Hospital Mortuary, awaiting autopsy.
The case is under investigation by DCI Kisumu Central.
In another incident, a 30-year-old man from Ndumbule sub-location in Kinango Sub-County is in stable condition after an apparent suicide attempt.
Makaule Hamisi reportedly ingested "Proof Herbicide" early Monday morning.
The incident occurred around 5:00 am on June 9, 2024. His father, Kwandika Nyaa, reported the incident to Kinango Police Station at 9:13 pm the same day.
Mr. Hamisi was rushed to Kinango Subcounty Hospital for urgent treatment. He is currently admitted to the facility.
Police officers from Kinango Police Station and the DCI Kinango visited Mr. Hamisi at the hospital. They confirmed his stable condition.
The reason behind the attempted suicide has not yet been established. The case is currently under police investigation (P.U.I.). SCCIO Kinango is handling the matter. A progress report is expected to follow.
