Police in Rachuonyo, Homabay County, are holding three brothers in connection with the death of their 40-year-old sibling, Ochieng.
Ochieng’s body was discovered on Saturday morning, lying by the roadside in Adiedo village, approximately 400 meters from their home. He had visible injuries to the head, hands, and legs.
Family members rushed him to Kendubay Sub-county Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Police officers visited the facility and confirmed the death.
A team of detectives later visited the scene where the body was found, but ruled it was unlikely to be the primary scene of the murder.
Investigators noted the absence of blood stains at the location.
The officers proceeded to the deceased’s home, where a search was conducted. They recovered two clubs, an axe, and a slasher, all stained with what appeared to be blood.
Additional blood stains were discovered on the wall of the family kitchen, though police noted the area seemed to have been cleaned.
Nearby, officers found what they described as discarded evidence in a maize plantation.
This contradicted the initial claim that Ochieng had been found dead by the roadside, leading detectives to suspect foul play within the homestead.
The three brothers were detained for questioning as investigations continue.
Ochieng’s body was moved to the mortuary pending a postmortem examination and further forensic analysis.
Elsewhere, Josephat Moi Marwa, 38, was killed on Saturday in an altercation with a man known to him outside his home in Kuria, Migori County.
According to police, Marwa sustained deep cuts on his face and arm, which led to his death.
A 71-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene, and the suspected murder weapon was recovered.
The motive behind the incident is yet to be established. The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and further investigations.
