
Two police officers were rushed to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon after a suspect they were arresting turned violent and bit them in a village in Bungoma County.
Three police officers from
Namwela police post in Sirisia had gone to effect an arrest of a suspect wanted
for malicious damage when two of them were attacked by the suspect.
The incident happened
in Stabicha village, police said. Witnesses and police said the suspect turned violent and
bite the two officers in the shoulders and hands, respectively, leaving them with
wounds.
They were both taken to
Kaptenai Dispensary before being referred to Sirisia Sub-County hospital for
further attention.
The other police officer who
escaped unhurt managed to detain the suspect, police said.
He is set to be arraigned for
malicious property damage, resisting arrest and assaulting police officers
while on duty, Western Regional police commander Issa Mohamud said.
He said the injured officers
were in stable condition after being attended to in the hospital.
Meanwhile, a 33-year-old man
was arrested after he was found with a toy pistol, two handcuffs and police
uniforms in a village in Magombo, Nyamira County.
Police said they had been
alerted about the activities of the suspect before they raided his home in the Gakano area.
The team also recovered a
smoke jacket, a police jungle cap from the suspect’s house in the June 4 raid.
The motive of the move to possess the government stores is yet to be disclosed.
Police said they are also
investigating the source of the items.
The man was detained pending
questioning and arraignment.
Locals had told police the
man was impersonating police, prompting the raid.
Elsewhere in Nyakach, Kisumu
County, a suspect was lynched over claims he tried to steal from a home.
The incident happened in Wanda village.
The body of the deceased was found on the roadside on Wednesday after
the murder.
Police discourage mob
lynching and term it criminal. The police want suspects to surrender to
authorities for processing.
The police are investigating a series of mob lynching incidents reported in the country so far, police headquarters said.
