Police in Runda, Nairobi, are investigating an incident in which gunmen in civilian clothes and claiming to be police officers beat up guards at a barrier.
Two guards were manning the barrier along Northern Bypass on Tuesday night when a black Land Cruiser with three men drove in from the Ruaka direction.
The driver forced their way through the barrier against a no-entry sign, and when they were challenged by the guards, one of them brandished a pistol and fired two rounds into the air.
His colleague jumped out and removed the barrier, and later punched the guards before they drove off.
Police were called to the scene and recovered a spent cartridge. The officers said they are investigating the saga.
The guard said they suspect the attackers were police officers in civilian and in private duties and want action taken on them.
A team is pursuing the matter, police said, as the guards were advised to seek medical attention.
