Kisumu Governor Professor Peter Anyang Nyong’o has issued a statement of appreciation to President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga following their recent joint visit to the county.
The governor described the visit as a milestone in fostering national unity and accelerating development.
In the statement released by the Governor’s office on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, Nyong’o expressed gratitude on behalf of the people and leadership of Kisumu.
He termed the tour a “successful joint visit” that culminated in the commissioning of several key infrastructure and housing projects.
“On behalf of the people and leadership of Kisumu County, I wish to extend our heartfelt and sincere gratitude to President William Ruto and Raila Odinga,” Governor Nyong’o said.
He named the major projects that were commissioned by the President, including Makasembo Affordable Housing Project – Phase 1, Lake Victoria Marina Affordable Housing Project in Kirembe and the Groundbreaking for Makasembo Affordable Housing Project – Phase 3.
The governor also acknowledged Raila’s donation of five hectares of land for the Kirembe housing project, calling it “a profound testament to the former Prime Minister’s unwavering commitment to the progress of Kisumu.”
“This gesture signals strong support for the national government’s housing agenda and underscores the belief that every Kenyan deserves access to decent, affordable shelter,” he added.
Governor Nyong’o further highlighted President Ruto’s commitment to Kisumu’s development, citing several ongoing initiatives, including the tarmacking of the Mamboleo–Miwani Road, a crucial trade and mobility corridor.
He also named the Kabonyo Regional Fisheries and Aquaculture Service and Training Centre of Excellence in Nyando Sub-county.
Currently under Phase 1, the Sh 3 billion project is expected to produce 28 million fingerlings annually to boost fish stocks in Lake Victoria.
The new Air
Traffic Control (ATC) Tower at Kisumu International Airport, now 80 per cent
complete, is also part of a Sh 314 million upgrade to enhance regional air
traffic management.
The governor voiced strong support for the recent cooperation between President Ruto and Raila, describing it as a symbol of hope and reconciliation.
“We wholeheartedly support the decision by President Ruto and Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga to work together in the interest of national unity and development,” the statement read.
Nyong’o reaffirmed Kisumu County’s backing of the Broad-Based Government initiative, as outlined in the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Ruto and Raila.
“We celebrate the peace, unity, and renewed sense of hope that this partnership has inspired across the country,” said the governor, urging all Kenyans to rally behind the shared vision for a stronger and more inclusive nation.
