Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has criticised Wiper-elected leaders who have aligned themselves with State House, accusing them of betraying the core of the Ukambani political movement.
Speaking during a Wiper leaders' convention in Tseikuru, Machakos county, Mwangangi condemned their recent visit to Nairobi, calling it a direct insult to Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and the aspirations of the Kamba community.
“Those who seek personal gain at the expense of unity must be voted out,” he said.
“They no longer represent our struggle.”
On May 21, Ruto hosted grassroots leaders from Machakos, Makueni and Kitui counties at State House for a meeting in which he said they resolved to expedite development projects in the region.
Speaking during the meeting, Ruto said Kenya can only be changed when leaders make difficult but right decisions, tough choices that speak to the destiny of the people.
"We must, therefore, build synergy with all leaders, and marshal resources for investments that will stimulate the growth of our economy," he said.
The Wiper leaders' convention, which carried strong political symbolism, portrayed Kalonzo not just as a regional leader but as a top presidential contender.
Mwangangi used the occasion to rally the Kamba community behind Kalonzo, insisting their support was non-negotiable.
“We are not asking for favours. We are asserting our rightful place in this country’s leadership,” he said.
“And Kalonzo is the man to take us there.” Under the banner #OneNationOnePeople, the Wiper movement signalled its intention to regroup and strengthen its position ahead of the 2027 elections.
Mwangangi's message was clear—support the cause or risk becoming politically irrelevant.
“The road to State House runs through unity, and we must not allow infiltration to dilute our resolve,” he warned.
Reinforcing Kalonzo’s influence in the region, Mwangangi reminded leaders that the former Vice President remains the key political figure in Ukambani.
“We cannot afford division when history is knocking,” he said.
“Let us silence the noise, reject betrayal, and carry Kalonzo to State House—not just for us, but for the nation.”
