Cardinal Otunga Girls’ High School in Bungoma county has received a significant boost in its infrastructure following the commissioning of a new 100-bed dormitory, fully funded by the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) Foundation at a cost of Sh5 million.
The dormitory was officially opened on Friday, May 30, 2025, by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula.
The facility aims to improve students’ living conditions and enhance access to quality education in Kanduyi constituency and its environs.
Speaking during the event, Wetang’ula emphasised the transformative power of education in driving both personal growth and national development.
“We believe that investing in education is investing in the future of our country. We thank the KPC Foundation for creating a safe, comfortable, and dignified learning environment for students across the country through their community outreach projects. This is a contribution to their dreams, their ambitions, and their future successes,” Wetang’ula said.
He also called on other corporate entities to emulate KPC Foundation’s example by channeling resources into educational development across the nation.
Representing KPC Managing Director Joe Sang, KPC Foundation Board Trustee Gloria Khafafa reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to closing educational gaps in underprivileged areas through its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives.
“KPC Foundation’s education initiatives align with the national government’s goals to increase secondary school enrolment and school completion rates across Kenya. We believe that education is a powerful tool for change and these projects reflect our commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of their background, has access to a conducive learning environment,” Sang said.
Khafafa further underscored the importance of supporting the girl child, adding that the Foundation will maintain its focus on empowering young girls through education.
The newly commissioned dormitory is part of KPC Foundation’s broader CSI strategy, which is built on three pillars: Education, Health, and Water & Sanitation.
These pillars guide the Foundation’s efforts to create lasting, meaningful impact in communities by addressing key social challenges.
This latest project adds to KPC Foundation’s growing portfolio of education-focused infrastructure investments.
In recent years, the Foundation has completed similar projects worth Sh11 million in Homa Bay and Nandi counties.
These include a dormitory and science laboratory at Simbi Secondary School (Sh8 million), an administration and ablution block at Kowuor Primary School (Sh5 million), and a multi-purpose hall at St Mary’s Secondary School (Sh5 million), bringing the total number of projects in the Nyanza region to five.
