A major traffic disruption was reported early Friday morning along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway near the Jet Inn area, between Emali and Masimba, after three trailers collided on a railway bridge section of the road.

The crash resulted in the death of one person, while another driver sustained serious injuries.

The mangled wreckage completely blocked the busy highway, causing a significant traffic snarl-up in both directions.

Emergency crews and traffic officers were on-site working to clear the wreckage, with operations still ongoing by the time of reporting.

Motorists are being advised to use alternative routes as authorities work to restore normal traffic flow.

The suggested diversions are:

For vehicles from Mombasa to Nairobi: Use the Makindu-Wote-Machakos Junction route to connect to Nairobi.

For vehicles from Nairobi to Mombasa: Take the Machakos Junction-Wote-Makindu route towards Mombasa.

Drivers are urged to exercise patience and caution as cleanup efforts continue.

The National Police Service (NPS) has since issued a public notice confirming the incident and warning of a serious traffic gridlock in the affected section.

"We are working with relevant agencies to restore normal traffic flow. Additional police officers have been deployed to the area and will take stern action against anyone violating traffic rules," NPS said.

We urge motorists to exercise patience and maintain lane discipline, consider alternative routes to ease congestion and enhance safety.
