Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Thursday convened a significant meeting at his Muuna residence in Mwingi, Kitui county, bringing together political figures and local residents.
The meeting focused on forging a united front to mobilise the Kamba community and the wider Kenyan opposition in preparation for the 2027 General Elections.
Speaking to thousands of attendees, Kalonzo warned against any attempts to rig the forthcoming elections and emphasised the opposition's commitment to integrity and accountability.
“We came here today with one message, do not attempt to rig the elections, do not undermine our coalition partners, and do not play with the future of our children. We are determined to ensure a better Kenya with quality education and accountable leadership,” Kalonzo declared.
He urged President William Ruto to prepare for a fair political contest in 2027 and cautioned the Kenya Kwanza administration against intimidating opposition leaders.
“If you dare arrest Rigathi Gachagua, you risk provoking the wrath of Kenyans,” he warned.
Kalonzo said the opposition will soon unveil their new coalition.
He stressed the urgent need to overhaul the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to guarantee free and fair elections.
The Wiper leader encouraged all youth aged 18 and above to obtain national identification cards and register as voters ahead of the polls.
Echoing Kalonzo’s call for unity, former Deputy President and DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua affirmed that opposition parties have agreed to collaborate to defeat Kenya Kwanza in 2027.
“We have consulted with Kalonzo Musyoka and other leaders and agreed we must unite behind one presidential candidate. We urge Kenyans to be patient as we build consensus,” Gachagua said.
He urged the Kamba community to leverage their political strength, stating, “Politics is a game of numbers. Register, show up, and vote in large numbers. It’s time to restore the dignity of the Kamba community.”
Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary and National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi reiterated the coalition’s goal to end the Kenya Kwanza administration’s rule, citing issues of injustice, abductions, and corruption.
Muturi also criticised interference with the Office of the Attorney General, warning that such actions undermine justice and governance.
DAP-Kenya party leader Eugene Wamalwa condemned the government’s misuse of public institutions to suppress dissent and warned against any election rigging attempts.
He appealed to ODM leader Raila Odinga to back Kalonzo’s presidential bid.
“You can recover stolen money or land, but stealing an election is playing with fire. Raila, Kalonzo stood by you for three elections. It’s time to return that loyalty. I also thank the three Ukambani governors for standing with Kalonzo Musyoka and the Wiper party, and also the senators and MPs for remaining loyal to their people,” Wamalwa added.
Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndetia reiterated her support for Kalonzo’s presidential ambitions, affirming that the Kamba community stands firmly behind him.
“We’ve made a collective decision to release our son, Dr Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, to seek the presidency. Those who’ve made it a habit to despise the Kamba community must stop now,” she said.
Governor Ndeti joined other leaders in urging young people to acquire identification cards and register as voters, highlighting the importance of civic engagement.
Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi insisted that anyone seeking the goodwill of the Kamba community must go through Kalonzo Musyoka, condemning ongoing disrespect toward the Wiper leader.
The Tseikuru gathering marked a decisive moment in opposition politics, signaling a consolidated effort to challenge the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition in the next general election.
