A 60-year-old shopkeeper is nursing serious injuries after he was attacked by armed robbers during a violent robbery at his shop in Upendo Estate, Nakuru County.
The incident occurred at around 8:48 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, when three unidentified men stormed the shop of Charles Mirimo, who operates about three kilometres east of Bondeni Police Station.
According to police reports, the attackers, one wielding a panga (machete) and another suspected to be armed with a rifle, demanded money from Mirimo.
The victim complied and handed over Sh2,000. However, the assailants became agitated and demanded more cash.
When Mirimo explained that he had no more money, one of the robbers slashed him on the left side of his neck with the machete before fleeing the scene on foot.
Good Samaritans rushed the injured shopkeeper to the Nakuru Provincial General Hospital (PGH), where he was treated for a deep neck wound and reported to be in stable condition.
Police officers from Bondeni Station visited both the crime scene and the hospital.
While no arrests have been made so far, investigations are underway, and the case has been classified as a Person Under Investigation (PUI).
Authorities say a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the suspects. A progress report on the case is expected.
