Detectives from Kisumu West, working alongside the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau in the Nyanza region, have arrested two suspects linked to a brutal abduction and gang rape incident that occurred earlier this month.

The suspects were apprehended following a coordinated operation after a woman was kidnapped and assaulted in Ongallo village, Kisumu County.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on the night of May 12, 2025.

The victim and her cousin had just left a bar and restaurant at Kisiani Market and were on their way home in a tuk-tuk.

As they arrived at their gate, a grey Toyota Axio pulled up, and three machete-wielding assailants emerged, forcibly abducting the victim.

Her cousin managed to escape.

The gang sped away toward Kisiani Junction and later used the victim's phone to demand money. T

he victim was later found at Daraja Mbili along Kiboswa Road, traumatized and having been gang raped.

Her phone and valuables had also been stolen.

The incident triggered a full-scale investigation led by detectives from Kisumu West and the regional Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau.

Their efforts bore fruit when they traced the suspects to Kisumu City Centre, where the grey Toyota Axio was spotted. A dramatic car chase through the city ended when the suspects’ vehicle crashed near Kondele.

Ongori, who was behind the wheel and apparent ring leader, was arrested on the spot. His interrogation led officers to the Obunga slums, where Owidhi was also captured.

Authorities revealed that both suspects were escapees from custody and have been linked to other criminal activities in the region.

They are currently in custody as investigations continue.

Authorities say more arrests are expected as the probe expands.
