The National Police Service has responded to an amateur video circulating on social and mainstream media, reportedly showing Juja MP George Koimburi allegedly dumped at a farm in Juja.

According to a police statement released by Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, the MP was under investigation in relation to a land case before his alleged abduction.

He said the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) had issued consent to prosecute the legislator.

"On Friday, May 23, the MP, fully aware of police intentions to arrest him, evaded a police dragnet. He escaped using a motorcycle with his private security and switched off his mobile phone," Nyaga alleged.

He said Koimburi's car, which had only the driver, was intercepted, and the driver was arrested and later released after recording a statement.

"The MP resurfaced today amid claims of abduction. Police from Juja visited the alleged scene and documented it. A special team from DCI headquarters is investigating the amateur video and all circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction," Nyaga said.

He said the NPS is appealing to anyone with information about the alleged abduction to report to their nearest police station or use toll-free numbers 999, 911, 112, or #FichuakwaDCI (0800 722 203).

Nyaga reaffirmed the NPS's commitment to thoroughly investigate all reported cases and bringing those responsible to justice.

Several reports have emerged detailing the alleged abduction of Koimburi, including an amateur video showing him lying unconscious in a tea farm in the Kibichoi area, Kiambu County.

He was lying on the ground unconscious while in a navy blue suit he was in on Sunday when he went missing.

Koimburi complained of being beaten up by his alleged abductors, who picked him up from outside a church in Kiambu on Sunday afternoon.

It is not clear who was behind the incident.

Police have denied involvement but said they believe Koimburi staged his abduction.

“His mobile phone has been off since Friday when police tried to arrest him and the operation was called off then,” an officer aware of the case said.

Koimburi is admitted to the Karen Hospital, Nairobi, where he's receiving treatment.

Speaking at the hospital on Monday, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua claimed that the Juja MP was administered a chemical that interfered with his vocal cords.

He claimed the MP lost his voice and is currently unable to speak but could write down what he went through.

“He was found badly beaten and tortured and unable to speak. Doctors have confirmed Koimburi was subjected to torture and sustained serious soft tissue injuries, which they say appear to be inflicted by professionals," Gacnagua claimed.

"A chemical was administered through inhalation, and it has affected his vocal cords. The doctors have assured us that they are doing everything to ensure he is out of danger," he said.

Koimburi’s wife, Ann Koimburi, said the MP was accosted by two men disguised as worshippers.

She said the two men grabbed and forced him into a waiting Subaru Forester with an altered number plate—allegedly intended to obscure the vehicle’s true identity.

The two men, dressed in plain clothes, did not identify themselves during the incident. They drove off with him, she said.
