Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi will on Sunday depart for a three-day official visit to Rabat, Morocco.
The visit, which follows a previously postponed invitation by Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, aims to strengthen bilateral relations between Kenya and Morocco.
According to a statement from his office, Mudavadi is expected to hold high-level consultations focused on enhancing cooperation and addressing the trade imbalance currently in Morocco’s favor.
Kenya’s exports, comprising tea, coffee, textiles, fruits, and vegetables, stand at approximately Sh480 million.
Imports from Morocco, including fertilisers, oils, and aircraft parts, total about Sh12.1 billion.
"While in Morocco, Mudavadi will meet with the Head of Government and Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch to discuss key areas of collaboration," said Director of Press Service Jacob Ng'etich.
A major highlight of the visit will be the official inauguration of the Kenya Embassy in Rabat, underscoring the longstanding diplomatic ties between the two nations established in 1965.
The embassy was opened in December 2023 following talks between President William Ruto and his Aziz on the sidelines of Dakar II Feed Africa summit themed ‘Food, Sovereignty and Resilience’ in Senegal in January the same year.
The establishment of an embassy in Rabat is aimed at elevating Kenya’s diplomatic presence in North Africa, joining embassies in Egypt and Algeria.
Mudavadi will also hold bilateral discussions with ministers in charge of agriculture and trade.
Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed, including agreements on housing and institutional cooperation between Kenya’s Foreign Service Academy and Morocco’s Diplomatic Academy.
