Former Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko has received a global award for his humanitarian efforts in helping the vulnerable, together with his Sonko Rescue Team (SRT).
Sonko has done a number of humanitarian acts, with the most recent one being assisting a one-and-a-half-year-old girl from Mathare whose mother died during the tragic fire incident.
The award was presented by Margaret Heighton, the president and founder of NO END TO LOVE an international organisation based in the USA and her husband, Dave Heighton.
“The purpose of the meeting was to present me with a distinguished global humanitarian award in acknowledgement of my efforts to improve the lives of the underprivileged and needy members of society,” Sonko said on Wednesday.
According to Sonko, the organisation has been closely observing his philanthropic activities and selected him for this great honour.
Sonko was commended for his efforts, as Heighton encouraged him to continue with his efforts to assist those in need.
Heighton described him as a role model to many Kenyans for his kindness.
She observed that SRT, which has helped many vulnerable children access medical treatment, education and other basic needs.
Sonko thanked the Heightons for recognising his charity work.
“In response, I expressed my gratitude for their recognition and assured them of my commitment to continue with my charity work," Sonko said.
This is one of the awards he has received as a humanitarian. In March 2025, Sonko was bestowed the East African Humanitarian Personality of the Year award.
Speaking after receiving the award,
Sonko dedicated the award to all beneficiaries of the SRT.
“I am highly delighted by the great honour
bestowed on me by the E360 Entertainment team for conferring me as the East

humanitarian work we have been undertaking to help the vulnerable and marginalised
in our society. I dedicate this award to all the beneficiaries of our different
programs under the umbrella of Sonko Rescue Team.”
