Some residents blocked the Kasarani-Mwiki road near St Francis Hospital on Tuesday morning, demanding justice after a local was allegedly fatally stabbed by suspected criminals.

The move left motorists stranded and forced others to seek alternative routes. Some motorists were stuck for hours, while others were forced to use alternative routes amid confusion.

Police and residents said the victim was fatally stabbed by suspected gang members on Monday morning, triggering uproar from the public, who blocked the road as they sought justice for the victim and his family.

Following the traffic disruption, commuters who rely on the road to access Nairobi's Central Business District and other roads were forced to sit in traffic as police officers tried to manage the situation.

Police arrived at the scene and pleaded with the group, who agreed to disperse. This was hours later.

Nairobi police boss George Sedah said they are pursuing the suspects behind the incident. He said detectives are pursuing them with the intention of ensuring justice is served.

Sedah also urged victims of robberies not to resist whenever attacked or ordered to surrender by suspects.

He said some of the suspects could be on drugs and out to cause harm.

“Your life is important than a mobile phone," Sedah said.

"Some of these suspects are on drugs and can harm you on slight provocation and it is important for one to cooperate with them."

The police boss said they have deployed more personnel to patrol in estates and business centres to address any form of crime.
