Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said that no security agency has summoned him after the failed Sunday arrest attempt.

This comes after police were stationed at his Wamunyoro home on Sunday, prompting Gachagua to go into hiding after learning of plans to arrest him.

Top government officials had earlier given warnings of plans to arrest and question Gachagua over alleged incitement remarks he had made earlier.

Gachagua evaded a police dragnet in Murang'a and drove towards his Wamunyoro home in Nyeri as police pursued him.

However, while addressing the press at Wamunyoro's home on Monday, Gachagua said he is ready to answer questions if the government knows he has committed a crime.

"They know all my homes, and I am here; they know my Wamunyoro home, they do not need to waylay me on the road. Let them just come here, and if I have committed a crime, they can come and arrest me and take whatever action they want to take,” he said.

“I have not been summoned by anyone, and I am waiting to see if there is any summons. They wanted to plant weapons in my convoy," Gachagua claimed.

Gachagua alleged he feared for his life, saying whoever was following him and those behind the raid wanted to frame him.

“I would have wished they had come here instead of waylaying us on the road,” he added.

Gachagua claimed he had previously reported to security agencies over the recent attacks on him, but nothing had been done.

On Sunday evening, one of his lawyers, Ndegwa Njiru, said police had laid a siege on his homes.

“To all media houses, kindly be informed that the DCI has taken over all Rigathi Gachagua’s both at Karen and at Wamunyoro. They are currently man-hunting him. We are yet to be informed of the reasons,” he said in a post on Sunday night.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka condemned the developments, terming them intimidation.

“This intimidation of the Opposition must stop. If you want to arrest Gachagua, do it the right way; follow the law. We are prepared to produce DP Gachagua before the DCI,” he said
