National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has invited Kenyans to submit ideas and proposals to help shape the 2025-26 Budget Statement.

Mbadi is expected to deliver the Budget Statement for the FY 2025-26 to Parliament on June 12, 2025.

In a public notice issued on Monday, the National Treasury called on citizens, civil society, and private sector players to contribute views on economic policies and tax measures that can drive sustainable recovery and inclusive growth.

“While finalising the statement, the Cabinet Secretary would appreciate contributions and ideas on economic policy and tax measures from Kenyans for the FY 2025/26 Budget,” the Treasury stated.

Kenyans are also encouraged to provide strategies for accelerating delivery under the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), alongside reforms that can strengthen regulatory and financial infrastructure for businesses and industries.

Further, the Treasury welcomes ideas on boosting opportunities for youth and women in entrepreneurship, employment, and leadership, and on promoting fiscal discipline and responsible use of public resources.

The ministry has also invited suggestions on interventions to enhance opportunities for youth and women in entrepreneurship, employment, and economic leadership and strategies to promote fiscal discipline and responsible management of public funds.

Submissions can be sent via email to [email protected] with a copy to [email protected]. The deadline for sending input is May 26, 2025.

This call for public participation comes in the wake of widespread backlash over the 2024 Finance Bill, which sparked national protests and forced the government to backtrack on several controversial tax proposals.

Since then, the administration has taken a more cautious approach on fiscal matters that directly affect the cost of living and household incomes.

Mbadi, who took over the Treasury docket earlier this year, is expected to strike a delicate balance between fiscal consolidation, economic growth, and social equity in his first Budget Statement.

The 2025/26 budget will play a critical role in determining the government’s direction on economic reforms, public spending priorities, and tax policies.
