The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has successfully investigated and concluded 71 cases over the past four months, the National Police Service (NPS) has announced.

In a statement released Thursday, NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga attributed the success to the DCI’s unwavering dedication to ensuring all reported crimes are thoroughly and swiftly investigated.

“This achievement is a reflection of our steadfast commitment to justice and the protection of all Kenyans,” said Nyaga. “Our officers have worked diligently to ensure that perpetrators of serious crimes are identified, apprehended, and prosecuted.”

Among the notable cases cited were high-profile investigations involving officials from the Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Co-operatives (KUSSCO), the suspicious deaths of Multimedia University student Silvia Kemunto and British national Campbell Alistair Scott, and the murder of Aisha Abubakar, an Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official in Kilifi.

Nyaga also highlighted the investigation into a violent home invasion and robbery targeting a Korean missionary couple at the Elmarba Full Gospel Church in Oloililai, Kajiado County. Four suspects in the case were arrested and arraigned in court.

Progress has also been made in the ongoing investigation into the murder of Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Were, a case that has gripped national attention in recent weeks.

The NPS stated that the DCI has been handling a wide array of criminal matters, including armed robbery, goods theft in transit, murder, defilement, illegal arms and drug trafficking, and human trafficking.

Nyaga expressed gratitude to members of the public who have cooperated with investigators, noting that community participation remains vital in the fight against crime.

“We call upon the public to continue supporting our work. Any information on criminal activity can be reported at the nearest police station or through our toll-free numbers: 999, 911, 112, or #FichuakwaDCI at 0800 722 203,” he said.

He assured the public that all reports will be treated with strict confidentiality, reaffirming the Service’s commitment to justice and security for all.
