The Ministry of Health has officially launched the Kenya Electronic National Vaccine and Immunization Portal (KeNVIP), a cloud-based data repository aimed at transforming how immunisation data is managed across the country.
Health CS Aden Duale made the announcement during the World Bank Cold Chain Equipment Flag-Off Ceremony and the inauguration of the National Immunization Cloud-Based Data Repository held at Afya House grounds.
“In tandem with this physical infrastructure, I am proud to officially launch the Kenya Electronic National Vaccine and Immunization Portal—KeNVIP,” the CS stated.
KeNVIP is designed to serve as a comprehensive and real-time platform for vaccine and immunisation data management.
According to the Ministry, the portal will enhance decision-making, increase visibility and traceability, and improve accountability and effectiveness in vaccine service delivery.
It will also aid in planning for the eventual transition of immunisation data management to the government’s central data systems.
The unveiling of KeNVIP was part of a broader event that also included the flagging off of 2,000 new cold chain equipment units.
These include solar- and electricity-powered refrigerators, cold boxes and temperature monitors, which will ensure that vaccines are stored and transported at required temperatures.
The Ministry noted that the government has invested USD 16 million in the cold chain infrastructure, underscoring its commitment to bolstering primary healthcare.
“Immunisation is one of the pillars of primary healthcare and a powerful driver of public health. Yet, for vaccines to work, they must be kept at precise temperatures from manufacture to administration,” the CS noted, highlighting the importance of the new equipment.
The theme of the ceremony, “Strengthening Immunization Infrastructure for a Healthier Nation,” reflects the Ministry's emphasis on using both technology and physical infrastructure to improve vaccine access and delivery.
The Health Cabinet Secretary praised the support of international partners, particularly the World Bank, UNICEF and WHO, whose collaboration made the dual launch of the cold chain equipment and the digital portal possible.
“Your partnership has not only been strategic—it has been transformative. Through your support, we are now equipped to reach every child with life-saving vaccines, regardless of geography, economic status, or infrastructure challenges,” Duale said.
He urged parents and caregivers to take advantage of the expanded vaccine access.
“Vaccines save lives, and thanks to this investment, they are now safer and closer than ever before,” the CS added.
Duale emphasised that both the cold chain equipment and the KeNVIP platform represent progress, partnership and a renewed national resolve to protect the health of all Kenyans.
