President William Ruto on Sunday led leaders from across the political divide to mark this year’s Mothers Day celebrations.

The President said mothers are pillars of families and play an irreplaceable role in shaping societies.

“Through love, sacrifice, and care, they raise and nurture us to be responsible and productive. Today, we honour all mothers for their tireless devotion to family and society. We value you. We celebrate you,” Ruto said.

First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto paid glowing tribute to mothers, emphasising their irreplaceable role in the home and the community.

She described motherhood as a sacred journey marked by enduring love and relentless sacrifice.

“This Mother’s Day, we honour the tireless spirit of every mother whose heart finds no peace until her child feels safe and loved,” the First Lady said.

She noted that a mother’s world is “beautifully intertwined with the well-being of her children,” where every smile, tear, and triumph echoes within her soul.

She praised mothers for embodying the purest form of love: “A love that bears all things, believes all things, and endures all things".

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale also joined the President in honouring mothers.

“Today, we celebrate mothers; the heartbeat of our families and the foundation of community wellness,” Duale said.

Duale added that as caregivers and nurturers, mothers are central to the nation's health and the well-being of future generations.

Joining the chorus of tributes, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua shared his heartfelt appreciation for women, especially mothers, acknowledging their strength and spiritual calling.

“On this great day and indeed all days of my life, I honour and respect you—for your resilience, energy, love, bravery, and for your sacrifice in raising us,” Gachagua said.

“It takes courage and love to host human life within your bodies in the gift begotten unto you by God.”

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i also joined other leaders in marking the day.

“Let me take this opportunity to wish all mothers in Kenya and Africa a happy and peaceful Mother’s Day. We love you all,” Matiang’i added.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja also issued a statement recognising the pivotal role of mothers, describing motherhood as “the exquisite inconvenience of being another person’s everything.”

He lauded women as the backbone of society, saying, “To all the incredible mothers who toil selflessly for the well-being of their loved ones—your love and support mean the world to us.”

Mother’s Day, observed annually in May in Kenya and many other countries, celebrates motherhood, maternal bonds, and the impact of mothers on society.
