President William Ruto has assured residents of Homa Bay that his administration will do everything to get those who killed Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were.
Speaking during an interdenominational church service in Suna, Ruto said the perpetrators and their collaborators will face the full force of the law.
He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that every Kenyan and their properties are safe and that such an act never occurs in the country again.
“I have told everyone that the government will protect the property and lives of every citizen. Recently, we had a big problem and lost our MP, Ong'ondo Were. I want to assure the people of Kasipul and Homa Bay, those who killed the MP, we will get them, they will not succeed, they will have nowhere to hide. We will go after them and their collaborators. Until we ensure that such an act never happens again in our nation of Kenya,” the President said.
His remarks followed calls by MPs to have a speedy probe and investigations into their colleague’s gruesome murder.
Other leaders had alleged a cover-up even as they demanded answers as quickly as possible.
Were was gunned down in Nairobi on April 30 by unknown assailants riding on a motorcycle near the City Mortuary roundabout at around 7:30 p.m.
In what now appears to be a chilling premonition, the MP had appealed to security agencies to protect him, stating that he was being trailed.
On Thursday, the National Police Service said the fatal shooting of the Kasipul Member of Parliament appears to have been both “targeted and predetermined”.

The National Police Service has also revealed that some of the suspects arrested in connection with the fatal shooting are members of an organised criminal gang known as “Mjahidin.”
According to a press release issued on Sunday, May 4, the gang has been linked to armed robberies in the Eastlands area of Nairobi.
"Some of the suspects arrested are members of organised criminal gangs, such as "Mjahidin", which has been linked to armed robberies in the Eastlands area of Nairobi," Police spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said.
So far, four suspects are in police custody.
Police said investigations had positively placed the four suspects at the crime scene and have recovered critical evidence.
"Upon further analysis of previously obtained leads, officers from the National Police Service swiftly conducted an operation and successfully arrested four suspects who had been positively placed at the crime scene."
"Investigators have also recovered crucial evidence linked to the crime, as well as to the perpetrators," Police spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said.
