Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hailed youths from Tharaka Nithi who visited him at his Wamunyoro residence on Saturday.
Gachagua, who hosted the youths alongside his wife, Pastor Dorcas, said he was impressed by their strong statement.
“A strong statement has been made by young people, who are millennials and Gen Zs, including university students and student leaders. These ambitious, visionary, and people-centred grassroots leaders and Mobilizers from Tharaka Nithi County paid a visit to me at our Wamunyoro residence,” he said.
The former DP said the issue-based approach to the country’s politics that the youth had presented resonates with him.
During the visit, the youths shared the challenges they encounter both in their communities and at their universities, particularly the new university funding model.
“Their assurance to listen to the people of Tharaka Nithi County and treat them as supreme has no reverse gear. The issue-based approach that the young people have brought forth speaks to my heart and what I have always advocated for all along.
“They have shared with me the challenges they face in the community and also at their various universities and the unresponsive, dysfunctional university funding model,” Gachagua said.
They were accompanied by Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina and Mathenge David, Mbaragwi MCA, who joined in the discussions, reinforcing the importance of youth engagement in local governance.
On Friday, Gachagua held talks with the people of Embu County at his Wamunyoro home.
The delegation from Embu was led by Manyatta MP and chairman of Young Parliamentarians, Gitonga Mukunji, and other leaders.
The former DP said they underscored his commitment to a consultative approach to issues affecting Kenyans and fellow countrymen.
“At Wamunyoro Residence earlier today, I heard the people of Embu County. I will be with you every step of the way towards a better Kenya where no one is left behind,” he said.
Gachagua has intensified his consultations with political
leaders from across the region, signalling a strong effort to secure Mt. Kenya's
political loyalty.
