The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary closure of Nairobi-bound lane of Mombasa Road this weekend.
The authority said the section near Katani Road junction will experience disruption due to the closure.
The closure will be effected from Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 10pm to Sunday, May 4, 2025 at 6am to facilitate the installation of the remaining fabricated footbridge beams.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Katani Road junction will experience traffic disruption along the Nairobi-bound lanes from Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 10pm to Sunday, May 4, 2025 at 6am. This is to allow for the installation of the remaining fabricated footbridge beams,” KeNHA said in a public notice on Wednesday.
The closure is expected to cause a traffic jam.
KeNHA called on motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.
Earlier, KeNHA had announced a traffic disruption on the Nakuru – Kampi ya Moto (B17) Road, specifically at Kiamunyi near Riva Petrol station, approximately 1.5 km from the KFA roundabout.
The authority said the disruption is caused by the emergence of a sinkhole in that area, and maintenance works are currently underway to address the issue.
KeNHA said that motorists travelling to and from Nakuru, Eldoret and Baringo are advised to use the diversion road as directed by police and traffic marshals on-site.
“For safety, motorists should approach the affected section with caution, adhere to the traffic signs displayed and follow the guidance provided by the traffic marshals and police at the scene,” KeNHA said.
KeNHA is a statutory body established under the Kenya Roads Act of 2007 and inaugurated in September 2008.
It is responsible for the development, rehabilitation, management and maintenance of all National Trunk Roads comprising of Class S, A, and B roads.
It is headquartered in Nairobi and has ten regional offices and three corridor management offices.
KeNHA was certified ISO 9001: 2008 in July 2013 and was recertified to ISO 9001: 2015 in September 2018.
It is also in charge of all weigh bridge installations.
