President William Ruto has weighed in on the ongoing global diplomatic tensions, affirming Kenya’s commitment to international principles.

Speaking during a state visit to China on Wednesday, Ruto called for continued dialogue and peaceful resolution efforts, highlighting Kenya’s stance on multilateral resolutions amid ongoing geopolitical dynamics.

“We are also a diplomatic hub. Kenya has remained a non-aligned nation committed to the peaceful resolution of conflict, sovereignty, and mutual respect. Let us choose understanding over confrontation,” Ruto said.

The Head of State further voiced his support for the One China policy, underscoring recognition of The People's Republic of China as the legitimate government of China—a position Kenya has consistently maintained in its long-standing ties with the Asian nation.

Kenya’s steadfast commitment to the One China policy reflects a principled and pragmatic approach to international relations—one that prioritizes respect for sovereignty, economic interests, and long-term geopolitical stability.

Regarding the Hamas-Israel war on Gaza, Ruto reiterated Kenya’s support for a two-state solution, describing it as the most sustainable pathway to peace.

Addressing the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the president called for open dialogue and a path toward de-escalation.

“We support the One China policy, a two-state solution in the Middle East, and dialogue—not escalation—in the Russia–Ukraine conflict. As we say in Africa, when two bulls fight, the grass suffers,” he said.

His remarks reflect Kenya’s broader foreign policy approach, which advocates for peaceful conflict resolution, respect for sovereignty, and active international diplomacy while safeguarding national interests.

The highly anticipated state visit by President William Ruto to China this week marks a pivotal moment in Kenya's foreign policy and international economic diplomacy.

The visit, occurring during a time of shifting global geopolitical dynamics, is set to reshape the contours of Africa-China cooperation.

For Kenya, it presents a strategic platform not only to reinforce its economic agenda but also to assert its leadership in shaping South-South cooperation for a shared, sustainable future.
