Homa Bay Woman Rep Joyce Bensuda trips after receiving President William Ruto in Oyugis on August 29, 2024.

Homa Bay Woman Representative Joyce Atieno Bensuda tripped and fell after receiving President William Ruto in Oyugis, on Thursday.

In a video seen by the Star, Ruto had just finished signing the visitor’s book at the Oyugis Water Project and as he stood, Bensuda who was among other leaders next to the President tripped and fell.

The President’s security team rushed to help her up before Ruto and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga also joined in helping.

As the leaders moved towards an exhibition area, Bensuda and Wanga were heard laughing about the fall.

Bensuda is then heard jokingly saying “Nimeanguka nayo”.

The leaders including Ruto and Wanga break into laughter as walked away.

‘Anguka nayo’ (drop with it) is a phrase that has come to be commonly used after the anti-government protests.

While it initially was a party song by the rap group Wadagliz, it has become the anthem of online activism in Kenya.

During the protests, it became the lyrical euphemism for what Kenyan youths stood against.

Even with the protests done, the song still plays and is used even by politicians whenever they engage young people.

Ruto is on his second day of his planned four-day tour of the Nyanza region.

The tour started on Wednesday with an extensive visit to Migori county where the President launched several projects.

He also visited Kisumu county.
